The ‘syllabus’ for KALling

Basically, the knowledge that we shall test is defined by the National Curriculum. However, the NC for secondary schools (Key Stages 3 and 3 – KS3-4) doesn’t identify any specific KAL items for English, and only mentions three gender categories for KS3 Foreign Languages (FL).

To try to fill the secondary KAL gap, we have compiled the following lists of terms:

  • Year 7: the 40 items listed in the National Curriculum for English as terms for pupils to know.
  • Year 9 FL: the 40 items for Year 7 plus the seven extra items mentioned in the National Curriculum for Foreign Languages at KS2 and KS3.
